Now, will some one please tell me what is wrong with taking the assumption that the Universe is a living thing? It’s just some part of a greater whole, that we being on the inside see only an extremely small part of it.

Your body is made up of cells, of which are made of molecules and atoms. Now tell me this; does the atom that is part of the molecule which creates a cell in your body, know that it is a living thing? Know that it is part of a greater thing called a human body?

More could be said.
