A Matter Of Definition.

Yes, it only depends on what you call "life". If, for instance, you define life is a bunch of organic matter - then the Universe is dead (is not a form of life), 'cause there is very little organic stuff there. But if you define a life as a motion and chemical/physical changes - then yes, the Universe is full of that and hence is alive.
