If you understand Godel's incompleteness theorem, you will understand that scientific proof is no longer possible. There is only evidence that something is so, along with our hunches as to how good or probable our evidence is.

So if you refuse to believe without proof, you end up believing nothing. You cannot believe in electrons, or protons and neutrons, or even photons, as it cannot be proved that they exist. In fact, I think the evidence that fields exist is better than the evidence that particles exist.

All the every day experiences that ordinary people think of as provable are really proofs by definition, and I cannot even prove that.
