Dark energy is responsible for the acceleration in the expansion of the universe. It as well seems to be the missing force to make the universe flat. The omega for dark matter is about 1/3 and the omega for dark energy is 2/3, so that the two add to one, and omega equal to one makes the universe flat

What really interests me is that this is all hearsay. Both dark matter and energy are invisible and only indirectly detected. Yet we are all willing to believe in it because a scientist or two told us so.
