Actually I would like you to name one branch of sceince not established by creationist before 1950, evolution theory is not to be included. (Ofcourse even if you do Darwin was a Fun. Christian before becoming an atheist.)
Even though some did believe in old earth, nearly all were christain fundimentalists, so to imply this is just wrong. All beleived that the earth was created by some spiritual being.
The bible tells us that all enjoy in the study of God's Creation. Even if you wouldn't like the theories/concuslusions that they came to most wouldn't let their beleifs get in the way. I really only need to mention one Name: Issac Newton, if you look at his writings 90% were theological and only 10% had any dealings with science and look at how he helped science.
