Why get all caught up in the fundamentalist attempt to degrade science? Do you realize how damaging young earth creationism is to science? Not only does it attempt to present itself as legitimate science to deeply religious people (thereby leading them astray), but it attempts to undermine science in the schools. As you said yourself, let the kids choose what they want to believe. I can't think of a more damanging idea to science than young earth creationist attempts being halfway successful.

What happens next, government grants go to young earth creationists? Should we have million dollar studies to locate evidence for the flood? Should public universities be compelled not to teach biological evolution, cosmology, etc? Oh my gosh, just the fact that there are people out there who want those very things and are getting Ph.D.'s and lobbying Congress is absolutely scary.

The funny thing is that I can at least partly understand someone who is trying to cling onto their church's teachings and want to believe in something absolute (in a relative world), but for someone such as yourself who professes to open-mindly consider such obsurdities is unbelievable.

Warm regards, Harv
