It isn't that we fear creationism being true. We fear what YEC or ID try to teach. YEC involves very little critical thinking. This is a detriment to science. If we bring up children who can't think critically, what progress can they make?

Obviously science has alot of merit behind it. From medicines to car safety, science has proven itself. Scientists found solutions to problems in life. This isn't possible when critical thinking is replaced by look it up in the bible thinking.

However, as Harvey said, creationism is so easy to follow. You don't really need to have it explained to you unlike real science. That's why most people get their weather forecasts on tv instead of making their own forecasts from models available on the internet. Or why people watch news programs like Dateline. People watch it because its simple. People like simplicity, it helps them feel better about themselves. Please have no delusions about it, that much is true. Look at America Online, that's how easy they needed to make it for people to use it. Look at Windows and how XP is dumbed down. Man I yearn for the days of DOS. That was an operating system you could use. So when you take a very complicated science verse it against a relatively simple tell all creationism, people have a propensity to move towards the path of least resistance.

If you noticed, the Electoral College system was created to keep the people from having direct power to electing the President. Why? Because they didn't trust the general public's ability to both a) know the issues and b) be able to judge intelligently on the issues.

This is why folks like Harvey and I feel that something needs to keep YEC'ers at bay.

But let me point your question out in another way. If YEC were so true, then why have there been no published articles in science journals for YEC?
