Bryan,

I don't see how wondering about our existence can cause insanity. Mental illness has nothing to do with what you think about, it has to do with having psychological issues (you could just as well have the same mental problems if you were into gardening).

On the other hand, I can think of few topics that is more rewarding than the 'big questions' that are beset before us. I've often wondered how a human being could live their life without a real indepth probing of the 'big questions'. Even if they are hopelessly unanswerable, just approaching the frontiers of that knowledge is well worth the effort.
