By the same reason water is running downhill or chemical reactions proceed to decrease potential energy and to increase entropy (disorder).

Life is a bunch of chemreactions, so it goes in the direction of decreasing of overall potential energy and increase of entropy. Both are mathematical (=logical) principles, so life is mathematical product.
