Place clouds of H left after Big Bang (with slight quantum fluctuations of density) into computer along with inverse square law of gravity and with rate of expansion of space - and pretty soon you'll get galaxies and stars. You CAN NOT get galaxies and their distribution pattern from some SINGLE PRINCIPLE. It is gravity at work + expanding space + given initial conditions.
