If the SU had never invaded and occupied Afghanistan, then there would have been no requirement in the US in supporting those who wanted freedom from the expansionist Soviet regime. What you fail to see is that the Soviet Union was one of the most evil governments humanity has ever seen. Fortunately you are saved from that life by now living in the USA. Your words may deny it, but your presence here speaks for itself.

Now that the Soviet Union has ceased, freedom (=prosperity, =human rights, etc) has a much better chance of advancing to other countries - including the Arab world. Unfortunately there are more enemies of freedom besides the Soviet ideology, so the war against the United States will continue. The good news is that humanity naturally seeks freedom which is why we see the study progression of freedom in the world.

If humanity survives and lives to the stars, it will no doubt be because a few brave souls saw the importance of a free world and were willing to defend that freedom. That is why it is necessary to defeat fascism and other forms of tyrrany.
