The interaction we are referring to here is the neutrino/matter interaction aXb, neutrino in, beta negative out, a+1Yb. The neutrino carries kinetic energy, its own plus that which it picks up falling toward the black hole from the conversion of gravitational potential. This kinetic energy converts to rest mass when the neutrino interacts with a nucleus. For example, 13Al27, neutrino in, beta negative out, gives 14Si27. The Si27 "weighs" about 4.8 MeV more than the Al27, plus the electron out of the reaction has a rest mass of 0.51 MeV. If the Al27 and neutrino are captured by the black hole, the hole increases in irreducible mass energy only by the mass and energy of the Al27 plus the kinetic energy originally carried by the neutrino at infinity. If they interact before falling in, the hole increases by a Si27 and an electron which together add about 5.3 MeV more energy to the mass of the hole - energy derived from the gravitational potential and this violates energy conservation.
