I should have stated that the irrreducible mass energy of the black hole increases by the original mass energy of the particles plus the rest mass derived from the gravitational potential if they interact on the way in. The hole only increases by the original mass energy of ther particles if they do not interact. The former violates energy conservation and that is certainly unusual.

Sorry for the incorrect statement.
