Here are my thoughts on your comment about matter escaping a black hole. It's not anything I read in one article or book, but it's something I have accumulated through years of reading and listening and learning. Obviously, it might not be correct, so your comments are appreciated.

The jets are not emitted form the event horizen or the singularity, but from the outside, swirling matter. In Seyfert galaxies and in rotating black holes, the rotating matter in the accretion disk generates a magnetic field, and the more massive the black hole and accretion disk are, the stronger the magentic field. All of the jets emitted from black holes are charged particles. Why? Because of the extremely powerful magnetic poles. They sweep many of the charged particles out of the acretion disk and jettison the matter along the line of the magnetic poles.

Hawking radiation is another source of radiation for black holes. Are you familiar with this? They do not form jets, but occur all over the event horizon.
