information on exactly HOW and WHY science knows the cosmic background radiation is a remnant of the 'big bang'?

In all the years i've been investigating this stuff, off and on, ALL i've heard is that the CBR IS a result of the big one but never been able to find how they came to that conclusion.

Just one of the things that have been puzzling me for some time now...
