The November issue of Sky and Telescope has an article where spherical telescope mirrors are flexed into a parabola. The method is more complex than simply gluing a bolt to the back of the mirror and applying tension.

If you have read the article do you have any thoughts on this approach? Also how does such a mirror get realuminized in a chamber with a ~3" bolt sticking out the back of it? I guess a special holder would need to be built.

The method sounds quite appealing since polishing a mirror into a sphere is easy.
