Rather than buy the DS series, consider buying a Dobsonian-style scope instead. You will get a larger telescope with better eyepieces for the same money. That will make a big difference in whether you enjoy the telescope. I do not believe the DS-series scopes are well made.
Read my recent posts in this forum--indeed, read the entire thread from a couple of weeks ago under the heading "ETX"--I discussed various beginner's telescopes with another fellow. And look into the Orion Dobsonian telescopes. Their web site is telescope.com (note the singular, telescope, with no s on the end. Another vendor has the website with the s). Or try this link:
