We can't prove things correct or incorrect until they are at least on the table to be disected. Let us not forget this is admittly not proven and nobody is basing a religion or culture around one theory. Some religions attempt to do this with very poor ideas and explanations, that is their right. Let us not dismiss the rights of others who are working with what little we have to construct possible models. Perhaps it will never be proven, but then again I would never have thought our knowledge and technology would have provided our species with a wide range of things.
