A particular reality probably exists. But humans will never know exactly what is is. The best we can do is determine what it is not, leaving a large range of possibilities for what it is.

As science learns more and more about nature, the range of possible realities will narrow. It has already falsified some possibilities that have appeared in religion, like the creation of the universe in 6 days 6,000 years ago.

I think the more important question is what are is the range of possible realities. Science has come a long way, but answers to the big questions like afterlife are still out of the reach of current science. I think such answers will come from an understanding of dark matter and energy.
