I don't know, it seems that the majority of what we call dinosaurs died out about 61million years or so before the oldest supposed link we know of came on the scene, even the primates have changed by leaps and bounds over those last 4 million yrs.
Geological time frames make this a drop in the bucket, so who knows what kinds of intelligent life may have evolved and died out during the last 65 million years. There are an awful lot of unexplainable artifacts, and there very well could have been visitors from another world at some time in the past, impressions both mental and physical would be virtually impossible to trace over a million years, even if it was the intention of visitors to do so. Evolution is "the" best fit we as an intelligent race have for tracing the past life on this planet biologically, we have a pretty good idea how it works and are even changing and cloning life.
The earth, solar system, galaxy and universe are also much better understood, and it is all based on changes occuring naturally, like evolution.
Religion is changing fast too, not that long ago, not one person on this forum would have escaped the judgement of organized religious zelotry, either due to thier own words, or by association.
We are products of past forms of life, and live among products of past forms of life.
