Plaeides And Orion Question

This is a question from complete ignorance of astronomy and religion... however i met this guy recently who was into astronomy and he said that the constellation of Orion is bound by forces that keep each star a fixed distance from each other. He also said Plaeides is a constellation where the stars constantly getting futher away from each other.

He was then talking about the link between some religions and astronomy and mentioned the bible had a verse about Pleaides and Orion which was in line with the above fact(in the book of Joab?), that seems to have been written years before this fact was discovered. Can some one confirm/deny this?

Sounded a little too unlikely to me, but I thought this would be a good site to lodge this question.
