I'm not sure anything in QM is simple, however regardless if the electron field distorts the 'particle' path or the field is both a wave and particle, the point is that wave-like behavior can emerge as a consequence of particle-like behavior. My main point is that wave-like phenomena in the universe might be quantum-mechanically induced and that interference of waves might limit the type of events that can happen in the universe. This is not clear from the photon double-slit experiment since it is not an accumulated effect of particle-like behavior. We see this accumulation only in the electron double-slit experiment which I think is significant.
