"If you knew there was a heaven, and you knew the way to get there, would you not try and tell your loved ones how to get there? They do it because they love you."

I've seen situations like Phillip has been in. It wouldn't be a pretty thing, with them trying to spread the good word to a mislead sheep. Very conservstive christians, are, in my experience, absolutely intolerant and spiteful of atheists, and they would try to "bully convert" him back into the fold, and ostracize him otherwise. You might say that is a loving act, I call it hostile and bigoted.

Phillip, I feel your pain. I had it much better than you when I discovered my atheism. My parents are Christian (but not fundamentalists) but they accepted me anyway, and they live with it. I was afraid of admitting it for years, but when I finally did it wasn't bad at all. In your case, that probably wouldn't happen. It absolutely sucks being in a situation like you are now, and it hurts like hell. The best you can hope for now is just to talk it over with folks who won't hate you for who you are. Hang in there.
