How many big bangs have there been?

According to some theories I have heard proposed, the big bang could be an event that will lead to a big crunch, then another big bang. With this type of thinking maybe the universe behaves like a beating heart. Maybe the universe is infinite and there is no beginning or end, just oscillations in time and space due to gravitational attraction.

Therefore, "God" is eternal in an infinite universe. To say before the big bang is irrelavent because there is no instance where the universe was out of existence.

Of course if there is not enough gravity in the universe to pull everything back together, then I suppose the expanding universe will lead to nothing more than black dwarfs, black holes, and floating cores. Who knows?

Scott
