People always believed in superstitions. One of them - set of gods. Zeus, Ra, biblical Jahove, and many many others. After close look at their acts science found no Zeus on clouds (just static electricity), no Ra driving Sun across sky (just rotating Earth), no human-looking Jahove creating Earth and Adam about 6 millenia ago, and so on. So, wherever science looks - gods vanish.

Of course, believers DO NOT LIKE that. Therefore, they say: "...may be behind this corner (say, DNA work)"? Science takes a close look and says "Nope". "...How about that corner, there sure should be some Zeus there". Again, scientists work for some time and find no Zeuses there either"

So, what are believers going to do in such embarassing situation when science keeps evicting gods and other superstitions from everywhere it reaches?

Think a little, and you find easy answer. Believers just have to declare that God is invisible, undetectable, immaterial, unphysical (=does not participate in any masurable phenomena and does not influence any measurable phenomena).
This way they can try to "save face" (= save their belif in G... wait a minute, in WHAT? There is nothing physical left from allmighty biblical gods - no physical power, no influence (=detectability), no material trace or shred of physical existence).

But this is completely OK to believe in physically inexisting and unifluencing physical world entity. After all, they feel happy - the same way as child feels happy believing in Santa Claus. Try to convince a child that Santa does not exist - and you make him unhappy.
