Hi, I'm new to astronomy and need advice about which telescope to buy. I'd like to be able to see the planets as well as other objects. I don't live in the city, but do have nearby porch lights to contend with. I need to stay in the $500 or under price range. I'm looking at three different telescopes now and would appreciate your coments on these or other ones. 1. Meade DS telescope, 4.5" reflector, 910 mm, with the AUTOSTAR system. I like the idea of knowing what I'm looking at, and being able to find things. 2. Skyview Deluxe 6" EQ newtonian, (f/5) 750mm 3. Skyquest XT8 8" Dobsonian, 44.5" long metal tube, 1200mm (f/8)

The big 8" Dobsonian sounds great, but how hard is a Dobsonian to operate compared to a telescope on an equatorial mount??? Would I be able to find anything with the Dobsonian?????? How hard are they to move from one object to the next??? The 4.5" with the AUTOSTAR is much smaller, but at least I'd know what I was looking at.

Any advice Appreciated THANK YOU, Dave
