: My project is to find out what black holes really are : can you tell me what they exactly are? : My address is: : 5568 CenterPointe Blvd. Apt 2 : Canandaigua, NY 14424 : My phone # is: : 716-394-1958

Short answer. Black holes are exremely dense objects, where the escape velocity is greater than the speed of light - therefore nothing (including light) can escape. There appear to be two known varieties large burned out stars and galactic centers (which can be millions of stars in mass). I suggest you read "Black Holes and Time Warps" by Kip Thorne to get a more complete picture. The book is written for the intelligent layman.
