: Short answer. Black holes are exremely dense objects, where the escape velocity is greater than the speed of light - therefore nothing (including light) can escape. There appear to be two known varieties large burned out stars and galactic centers (which can be millions of stars in mass). : I suggest you read "Black Holes and Time Warps" by Kip Thorne to get a more complete picture. The book is written for the intelligent layman. Energy can exscape but that isn't really a thing per se. |
