When light is ascending in gravitational field, it is loosing kinetic energy (color) but this energy does not disappear: it goes into gaining gravitational potential energy (as light is gaining elevation). Total energy K+P in the system is always the same. If the photon ehausted all its initial energy and ceases to exist, the gravitational field around black hole still holds all photon energy.
