Virtual Particles As Dark Matter

Has the possibility of dark matter being composed of virtual particles been considered? If not, then the idea seems plausible. The particles disappear before they can be detected, but before being destroyed, they would be able to exert a small gravitational tug upon the surroundings. Think about it...
