12.5"-too Big To Gind For Newbie?

I was originally going to try a 8" mirror but since my real desire is to have at least a 12.5" scope and I can get a 12.5" Pyrex blank cheap, I was thinking maybe I could take a chance. I wouldn't expect 1/10 wave. Even 1/4 would satisfy me since I absolutely cannot afford to buy this size already made. Do you think I'd have a chance at doing a decent job even with no experienced mirror maker in my area to help? I'd shoot for f/5.5 or 6.
