PVC Pipe For Telescope

Has anyone used pvc pipe for their telescope tube? I know someone who built a 6" Newtonian on a Dobsonian mount using pvc. The scope, complete with a finished oak mount and other oak accessories is a sharp looking unit. The owner says the scope is a fine performer too. However, I would like to get some second and third opinions about the functional aspects of pvc. Thanks in advance for your input. Clear skies to all.
