Aluminium is nice, but certainly expensive and hard to find in the size you need. Fiberglass is MAYBE a little cheaper, CAN be made yourself with a little effort, and even found commercially with some looking. BUT, why not go the tried and proven Sonotube route. Believe me, with several coats of polyurethane to seal and a quality latex finish coat, you can`s ask for a better tube, especially in the relatively short length you need. Some of the builder supply houses carry them in short lengths, but you`d be surprised at the local construction companies that would probably not mind ordering you a length just to help you build your telescope. Especially if you offer a peek through the finished product. A 12` length of 12" id sonotube is less than 40.00 here in Florida and is enough for 2 or 3 scope tubes, sepending on f/ ratio.
