I have a 8"F8 green PVC pipe scope and it`s a heavy one! One of these days, I`m going to convert it to something else. In the short focal length of a 6" the weight shouldn`t be too much of a problem. The stuff isn`t light and you might want to check the weight of the tube and compare it against other materials.
PVC pipe is probably about 3x heavier than doing a 3/8" wall thickness hardwood tube.
