Hey Glenn,

Wow, sounds like you're going to have lots of fun with those eyepieces! Thanks for an excellent description of some hard-to-describe views. Sounds like there are in fact details to be seen on certain galaxies if you know how to look. M81 and M82 are definitely on my hit list.

Now that you mentioned it, my sky background through the scope looked anything but velvety black. I bet what I really saw was just the bright galaxy core; the rest of it faded into the background. Probably the same reason I had no success after spending an entire evening searching for M33.

I'll definitely have to pick up the book you mentioned - sounds like good information for novices like me. Believe me, the next clear night we get here when I'm free and can drag my scope out I'll broadcast it to the world! Thanks also for the new addition to my "favorite words" list!
