Why Do You Think A Sentient Creator Is Neccesary?

I don't see a need for an external sentience. Sure, I see the desire for one. But the universe doesn't seem to require it. Isn't it entirely possible that the universe exists solely in its own right? Do you believe God exists in his own right? If so, why not matter and energy?
