Brian,

Maybe we can agree that Alex has brought up a valid point. It is the rules of math that the laws of physics emerge from, not any object called 'math'. It seems that Alex and myself agree that mathematical symmetries (i.e., the rules of math) is responsible for the universe. Those rules are non-material, of course.
