Hey Paul, I think what you are describing is a version of eastern mysticism, or the western cultures version aka New Age-ism.

The difficulty these religions have, is in trying to assimilate evil. In the case of Hinduism, evil is percieved as "bad Karma", or the paying for of some transgression in a former life. So if one is born blind, or dies in an earthquake etc, they are simply paying for their own past evil.

The down side to this, is that you almost never here of a Hindu missionary. If one were to aleviate sufferring in another person's instance, you are "disrupting their Karma", and in essence just delaying the inevitable bad fortune they must endure on their road to Nirvana [communion with the cosmic consciousness?].
