Paul, I did indeed state it as though it were an assumption, however, it is a valid assumption [I think anyway] until someone can demonstrate that thoughts are infact, material. Or a consequence of material.

This is interesting, your postulate that thoughts preceeded matter.

In the first line of John's gospel it says..."In the beginning was the Word.." [Logos in Greek] therefore it would seem reasonable that God's thoughts, as transmitted via the Word[?], preceeded the material universe.

It would seem more reasonable [sans any prior assumptions to the contrary] that the design that is so prevalent in the cosmos and biology would owe its origin to an intelligent cause.

Even if the materialists are right, I don't know how one could escape the teleological implications of matter and physical laws coming together to produce life and intelligence--- as a seemingly inevitable consequence!
