How you just expressed it is also my understanding. But what I find fascinating is the work of Chaitin who characterizes number theory as not at all cohesive, but full of mathematical truths that are not related to anything else.

It also feeds into my gut feeling that the universe is ruled by mathematics rather than force. I read of an experiment last year that supposedly proved that extracting information from a quantum system without otherwise perturbing it, is sufficient to collapse the wave functions.
