Alexander:

Above all, we have been persuaded to think that differences in our abilities is unacceptable, that the only important human abilities lie in the sequential and analytic mode of thought. But only if we nurture individual and cultural diversity will we stand a chance of harnessing the wealth of human talent that has been ignored. That this ideal can be achieved is proved by such admirable writers as Peter Medawar, Lewis Thomas, Theodore H. White and John Kenneth Galbraith, who are able to communicate their complex expertise to a wide audience of educated people. Based on the sequential influence of language on thought and operating according to the rationalist rules of Greek philosophy and reductionist practice, they, among many others, have wielded tremendous power in their ability to offer the world on a plate.
