The problem is very simple: most people don't think, they just react. On top of that, those who do think seldom say much: they are far too aware of the possibility that they might be wrong. I have a quote I use quite often-- "God save me from those who know what ought to be done!"

The world (and here, the world can be any self defined entity) is run by idiots and will always be run by idiots because only idiots know what ought to be done. Who would listen to anyone who wasn't sure?
