Are there any other phenomena directed specifically at the intellectually aware without performing any other function? Also, a slight correction to your description of the Spectrum. The entire electromagnetic spectrum travels at the speed of Light, no part is any slower or faster then another, only their frequencies are different. : As I see God as the Creator, I see all the Laws of Physics as the manifestation of God's Law. The Spectrum just enjoys a Biblical Reference to God's Covenant. :o) : I have not been fortunate enough to be blessed with Mr. Hawkins views on the divine, but I find your statement of "that's good enough for me," to be rather shallow. Sort of like the Christian who says "The Bible tells me so." :o)

Indeed, that's what Shiva seemingly said to a seer (whose name I forget) when he drummed for him and stated that the rhythms of his music were the basis of all of science and even the creation of the universe. You see, I am a creationist and a scientist. Except I believe that god meant for us to come to understand as best we can how the universe was created along with its lifeforms. Following Smolin(hep-th/9209058) it appears that god used evolution(ie. natural selection) to create the perfect universe for black holes and perhaps lifeforms as black holes are maximized only with sufficient amounts of carbon being created. By the way, light can slow down. It's called group velocity. A recent group(no pun intended) got it to slow down to 36 mph. And group velocity is a function of frequency.
