I am not confident of the knowledge or credibility of books like the Koran, the Bible, or the Book of Mormon.

My understanding is that science as a body of knowledge and as a way to learn cause and effect would suggest that supernatural powers and influences as claimed by mystics do not exist. In each case that comes up there seems to be a natural non-supernatural explanation for someone's apparent supernatural abilities. People claiming to have psychic powers, for example, fail to perform them when well-designed experiments are performed that make cheating unbearably difficult.

Scientific claims, on the other hand, don't require that one be able to cheat to succeed.
