Mr. Nelson is affiliated with a school that has put all its eggs in the string theory basket, at least as far as physics is concerned. The people doing string theory there have serious concerns about whether they are heading in the right direction or not. Great achievements are being made on the mathematical aide of string theory. But sp far there has not been a solid connection to mainstream physics. That makes geniuses uneasy. They may be wasting their time and careers. They push on from the sheer beauty and elegance of their mathematics. But the strongest detractors of the whole string theory pursuit are in their own faculty. And even if they succeed, they may end up saying more about religion than everyday physics that affects us. Here is a school whose faculty produced more nobels in unification theories than any other school. They have a serious rep to maintain. And they may never get to the truth.
