Mike O'Connor,

Yes, the Bible states that God created man in his own image, male and female.

The originators of this text probably thought God looked like a man. God had 1 head, two arms and legs, 10 fingers, etc. Some later theologians interpreted "image" to mean that man has some of the attributes of God that other animals apparently do not have such as the ability to reason, love, hate, etc., but that God's appearance could be totally different than our own.

Because Mormons (the theology I'm most familiar with) believe that God created many worlds and that their (most intelligent) inhabitants are also spirit children of Heavenly Father, most of them assume that extraterrestrials must look just like we do.

I think all these are merely the ideas of man, not the inspired messages from God.

Science would expect and some religions would allow for extraterrestrials that looked very different than us.

If/when we do contact aliens it will probably cause some reinterpretations of scriptures.
