Yes, this is right, majority of complex organic molecules (but not all of them) have a spiral shape (sugar, for one, and thus the DNA wich is partly made of sugar). A spiral in 3-d space has 2 distinctive "isomers" - left and right direction of a curl. During evolution one shape dominated (symmetry breaking) and at least all DNAs and thus all related proteins and sugars in Earth life are now left-spiraled.

But there might be a physical reason of domination of certain (left) chirality, or of just slight advantage of one over another, which then was greatly amplified by pityless evolution. If this reason is universal (say, related to the spin of electron), then we may expect eadible sugars anywhere (as matter completely dominates antimatter everywhere). If local - then only on 50% of other planets.

I think, foreign fruits, animals and environment also may have different than our concentration of some heavy elements which are more common there but much rare here on Earth (thus, are toxic for us). Atmosphere could have more CO or SO3 or CNO, NO2, etc. water - high concentation of Zn rather than Na, etc.

Plenty of reasons to expect slightly (or rather) different (than our) life evolving in rather different than our environment.
