Even Theistic Scientists Are Embarrassed

Even theistic scientists sometimes are embarrassed when they see a collegue join a new religion.

It's one thing to see a scientist who hasn't completely given up the religious culture of his childhood. It's another to see one apparently analyze religious ideas critically and, yet, conclude that those ideas are superior to the atheism or agnosticism which scientists operate under.

Science and Religion in the minds of scientists is an interesting situation. In one part of their mind they seem to accept the logical rules of science, but in another they suppress those rules. This has been called "compartmentalization"

The conversion of an atheist to theism seems to entail usually more than one physiological / psychological experience that defies their concept of nature, but fits their understanding of how God might work. It's one thing to call someone else's experiences merely hallucinations. It's another thing to admit that your own could be the same thing.
