I'm an optimist about the continued acceptance of science over religion.

Let me play the role of a prophet. If nonscientists from 1000s of years ago and today can claim to have a special view of the universe merely based on their say-so, with no reliable evidence, so can I.

I think (prophesy) that scientific literacy will continue to increase on average in the world (some decades may show a decline) as science is accepted by more and more individuals and groups of individuals as the most reliable method to answer their questions about life and everything else.

I think (prophesy) that religion will become gradually less influential in society than it was in the past and that science will partially fill the void.

Pseudoscience will merge with or replace many of the remnants of the old religions (Jewish, Christian, Hindu, Moslem, etc.), but religion won't completely die out in the near future.

Eventually, however, persons of strong religious belief will be treated by the general community as backward in their thinking (like old computer programs) and, eventually as "scientifically challenged" mental cases, wards of society, interesting anthropological examples of how typical humans used to view their world before science was accepted.

What do you think (prophesy, predict)?
