B.L. Nelson,

Do you mean the entire mind of God, or just a piece of it?

Religious people frequently make statements that imply they think they know the mind of God. If I err by doing so, so do they.

Religious dogma is filled with examples indicating religious people believe they know enough about the mind of God to dogmatically assert their own beliefs concerning his emotions, purposes, etc. Consider, for example, the statement below. It, and many other religious claims, could be countered by the argument: how can you, or the originator of that idea, know the mind of God?

God loves everyone.

It's insufficient to argue that we know the statement to be true because God himself said it. Men who claimed to converse with God believed it and taught it. We don't know that it was God who said it. Even if God did say it, it doesn't mean he told the truth. You'd have to know the mind of God to know whether it was true.

What do you think God thinks about all this? Is God happy with us? Does God love you and everyone else? Does God want you and everyone else to obey the commandments written in the various scriptures of contradictory religions?

How do you know God doesn't want us to discard religious superstition in favor of scientific materialism or humanism? Do you know the mind of God?
